Review: Sevendust – Kill The Flaw

Sevendust is about to go on tour as the opening act for Godsmack and to go along with this their new album Kill The Flaw is going to drop on Oct 2nd. We got a preview copy and have to say that this sounds like from where they started.  This was a self produced effort at Architekt sutdios with their music engineer Mike Ferretti and then mastered by Andy VanDette.

Their first single “Thank You” has that classic Sevendust sound that you were introduced to years ago and makes you stand up and say “Thank You” for coming back to your roots. The hook in the chorus of “Letters” is for sure a home run that is screaming for radio airplay.

Underpinned by Lajon Witherspoon & Morgan Rose’s soaring vocal melodies and John Connolly & Clint Lowery’s cascading solos, cuts like “Cease and Desist” and “Death Dance” will help redefine the accepted definitions of heavy. FrontRowReport

Mainstream tracks include “Not Today,” “Peace & Destruction” and “Torched”. All still have a heavy sound and are crunchy but I can see these were designed to get regular airplay on rock radio. Take a listen to the lyric video of Not Today here…..

Other tracks that could be found on their original Home or Animosity albums would include “Forget” and title track “Kill the Flaw”. These are welcome from a personal standpoint since I preferred their earlier work.

Final Take: If you have given up on Sevendust over the years, this is the album that will bring you back into the solid hard rock that Sevendust introduced in the early century.
